Ramadan or Ramzan is a month of fasting, and celebration of the revelation of the Holy Qur’an. It’s the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and is determined by the sighting of the moon’s crescent.
In Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food and drink between the hours of sunrise (Fajr) and sunset, allowing them instead to focus on prayer and connecting with Allah (SWT).
It’s a time of spiritual awakening, self-evaluation and remembrance of Allah, which Muslims observe through prayer (Salah), fasting (Sawm or Roza) and charity (Zakah).
This year’s Ramadan is expected to fall on Monday 12th April 2021, subject to the sighting of the moon, and is expected to conclude on Tuesday 11th May 2021.
