Dua Of The Week: When Afflicted By A Calamity

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

There is no one from among Allah’s servants, who is afflicted with an affliction except that he says:

إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا

Indeed, we belong to Allah and indeed to Him is our return – O Allah recompense me for my affliction and replace it with something better than that.

Inna lil-lahi wa inna ‘ilayhi raji’oona, ‘allahumma’jurnee fee museebatee, wa ákhliflee khayran minha.

Except that Allah compensates him in what he has been afflicted with, and gives him that which is better than the previous thing.

Umm Salamah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “No Muslim is afflicted with a calamity but that he should say what Allah has commanded him: Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Allah we will return. (2:156) O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it with something better than it. If he does so, Allah will replace it with something better.”
