Tamil actor and musician T R Kuralarasan, brother of Kollywood star Simbu and veteran actor T Rajendar’s youngest son, has converted to Islam in a mosque in Chennai on Saturday.
A viral video showed Kuralarasan taking his Shahada (proclamation of faith) with his parents standing by his side.

When asked about his son’s decision, T Rajendar said, “I am tolerant of all religions and I respect my son’s decision.”
Kuralarasan has acted in films like Alai and Sonalthan Kadhala. He even composed music for Pandiraj’s film Idhu Namma Aalu, starring his brother Simbu.
By embracing Islam, Kuralarasan has joined a growing list of Tamil celebrities who have converted to the Muslim faith. Yuvan Shankar Raja, younger son of music composer Ilayaraja had embraced Islam a few years ago, following his mother’s death. Actress Monica converted to Islam in 2014, convinced by the Islamic principles. Actor Jai converted to Islam in the same year. Academy award winning musician AR Rahman is also a convert to Islam.
