On This Day In Muslim History: March 3

Maghfoor Ahmad Ajazi Was Born

On this day, 3 March 1900, Maghfoor Ahmad Ajazi, an Urdu poet, writer, orator and prominent Indian freedom fighter was born. Arrested for participating in the Quit India Movement, he later established Anjuman Khuddam-e-Millat, the biggest mosque of Muzzafarnagar, a rest house, and undertook the last rites of unclaimed dead bodies.


Firaq Gorakhpuri Died

This day, 3 March 1982, marks the death anniversary of Firaq Gorakhpuri, a writer, critic, and contemporary Urdu poet. Born Raghupati Sahai, he fought for secularism, and against the government’s effort to label Urdu as a language of Muslims. Recipient of the Jnanpith and Sahitya Akademi Award, he has written many works in Urdu, Hindi and English.


Mahmood Asad Madani Was Born

On this day, on 3 March 1964, Mahmood Asad Madani, scholar, activist, politician, President of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and former member of the Rajya Sabha was born. He is on the list of The 500 Most Influential Muslims.
