Khwaja Mir Dard Died

This day, 7 January 1785, marks the death anniversary of Khwaja Mir Dard, an Indian poet and Sufi, with a mastery over the Arabic, Persian, and Urdu languages. Author of a wide range of prose, articles and diwans, he is often referred to as one of the three pillars of classical Urdu ghazals.


Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Died

This day, 7 January 2016 marks the sixth death anniversary of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the former two times Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, whose tenure saw the peace processes between India and Pakistan. Founder of the People’s Democratic Party, he is also the first Muslim Minister for Home Affairs in the Union Cabinet.


Nawab Muhammad Akram Khan Was Born

On this day, on 7 January 1858, Nawab Sir Muhammad Akram Khan was born. Ruler of the Indian princely state of Amb from 1877 until his death in 1907, he was the son of Jehandad Khan, who was chief of the Tanoli tribe in the Hazara region of the North-West Frontier. He built the fort at Shergarh, as well as those at Dogah and Shahkot. His rule was a peaceful time for Tanawal, with no major conflicts.
