On This Day In Muslim History: February 9

On this day, on 9 February 720, Umar bin Abdul Aziz, considered the fifth rightly guided Khalifah, died in Damascus. Known for his piety,  he is credited with having ordered the first collection of Hadith. It was during the time of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz that the Islamic faith took roots and was accepted by huge segments of the population of Persia and Egypt.
