On This Day In Muslim History: February 15

Gulam Rabbani Taban Was Born

On this day, on 15 February 1914, Gulam Rabbani, a lawyer, journalist and Urdu poet with the pseudonym ‘Taban’ was born. A recipient of the Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi Award, he has several poems and ghazals to his credit and is acclaimed for his works, Zauq-i safar, Nava-e-avara, Poetics to Politics and Saz-i larzan.


Akbar Allahabadi Died

This day, 15 February 1921, marks the death anniversary of Syed Akbar Hussain Allahabadi, premiere political satirist, poet, postcolonial writer and Judge of the Sessions Court. Titled, Khan Bahadur and Lisan-ul-Asr, the Voice of the Times, his work, like the acclaimed Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa, critiqued the sham of colonial rule in India.
