In an extremely distressing incident, a 20-year-old Muslim youth in Honnali taluk of Karnataka was hacked to death because he had a green flag as his WhatsApp display picture.
The victim, Dayanath Khan, hailing from Davangere was working in a garage in Honnali. He had posted a green flag generally used by Muslims as his WhatsApp profile photo.
Taking it for a Pakistani flag, the accused Hemanth, Lohith, and Sanju, and others, all friends of Dayanath first confronted and attacked him a few days ago. According to Dayanath’s brother Shoaib following the attack, he was admitted to a hospital but didn’t report the incident to the police, as the assailants had warned him from informing anyone.
However, on Saturday, the group confronted Dayanath again and this time hacked him to death.
Honnali police have arrested two of the accused and registered a case.
