Students Protesting In Support Of Palestine Detained In Delhi

Delhi police on Monday detained several students protesting near the Israeli embassy in support of Palestine against Israeli aggression in the cities of Gaza and the West Bank.

The police have claimed that it erected barricades so that the students could be stopped from reaching Dr. Abdul Kalam Road towards the embassy of Israel. Students from Jamia Milia University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and the Delhi University had mobilised and gathered to create awareness and draw government attention towards the escalating situation in the Gaza strip caused by relentless Israeli air raids and bombing.

All India Students Association (AISA) Delhi unit president Abhigyan said several students were detained and taken to a police station. The Police has reportedly said that the detained students did not have the required permission to hold the protest, adding that “no one was allowed to violate law and order”.

The civilian death toll in the Gaza Strip has crossed 5000 of which half of them are children. Even after the surprise bombing of hospitals, churches, schools and libraries, Israel has threatened the Al-Quds hospital in Gaza with an imminent assault if it is not evacuated soon, as reported by Al Jazeera. The hospital shelters nearly 12,000 people including patients on ventilators.
