Right-wing groups staged a protest and disrupted the foundation laying of the new building for the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy Building near the Thokottu junction by Ullal, in Mangaluru.

Amid the ongoing preparations for the initiation event at the construction site, BJP and Sangh Parivar activists gathered at the location along with the Ullal Councillor Dinakar Ullal and members of the Abbakka Utsav Committee and conducted a protest in opposition of the construction.
The new building will be constructed through the Department of Kannada & Culture, Government of Karnataka. The centre will promote and propagate Beary’s language, culture and arts. The Beary language is spoken by the Beary Muslim community of Mangaluru.
MLA and Deputy Leader of the opposition U T Khader who had arrived at the site to attend the event was waylaid by the protesters, who appealed to him forgo the event. However, the MLA said that he was expected to attend the program as it was undertaken by the government.
