Qatar Summons Indian Ambassador And Condemns Statements Against Holy Prophet

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday summoned Indian Ambassador, Dr Deepak Mittal, expressing the country’s disappointment and condemnation of the blasphemous comments made by BJP national spokesperson, Nupur Sharma against the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, handed over the memorandum to the Ambassador of the Republic of India.

Massive outrage has poured in across the Muslim world against the outrageous comments made by Sharma and BJP’s Delhi media in-charge Naveen Kumar Jindal, who had also made similar remarks against the Prophet on Twitter.

Hashtags calling for the boycott of Indian products are trending on Twitter in Arab countries.

Following this, the BJP suspended both Sharma and Jindal.

In the statement, Qatar said that, while the country welcomes the suspension of the duo, it said it had confirmed in the protest note handed over to the Indian Ambassador its expectation of a public apology and immediate condemnation of these statements by the Government of India.

It pointed out that such anti-Islam statements poses a grave danger to the protection of human rights and may lead to further prejudice and marginalization, which will lead to a cycle of violence and hatred.

The memorandum indicated that more than two billion Muslims worldwide follow the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who came as a messenger of peace, understanding and tolerance, and consider him the light that Muslims all over the world emulate.

The State of Qatar stressed that these insulting statements that incite religious hatred are an insult to Muslims around the world, and indicate the clear ignorance of the pivotal role Islam has played in the development of civilizations around the world, including in India.
