Humayun Was Born
On this day, on 6 March 1508, Humayun, emperor of the Mughal Empire was born. A warrior and connoisseur of poetry, whose reign saw inclusiveness for all sects of Islam, he ascended at 22 and regained the losses of his inexperience to expand the Mughal Empire to almost one million square kilometres.
Ibn al-Haytham
This day, 6 March 1040, marks the death anniversary of Ḥasan Ibn al-Haytham, an Arab mathematician, astronomer, physicist, who wrote on philosophy, theology and medicine. Described as “the father of modern optics”, and the world’s “first true scientist”, his magnum opus, Kitab al- Manazir greatly influenced researchers like Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei.
