On This Day In Muslim History: February 2

Poet Ehsan Danish Was Born

On this day, on 2 February 1914, Urdu poet, writer, linguist, lexicographer and scholar, Ehsan Danish was born. He authored over 100 scholastic books on poetry, prose and prosody. His autobiography, the classic Jahan-i-Danish and his poetry on the dignity of labour earned him both the title of ‘Shaer-i-Mazdoor’ and the ‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’.


Imam Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani Died

On this day, on 2 February 1449, Imam Ibn Hajar al-ʿAsqalani, one of the most influential scholars and polymath of the 15th century died. He authored more than 150 books —most of them being in the studies of Hadith, the most valued of which being his commentary of Sahih al-Bukhari, titled Fath al-Bari.
