Odisha Boy Soyeb Aftab Scores 100% In NEET, A Record First In The Country

Soyeb Aftab from Rourkela in Odisha has secured a perfect score (720 out of total 720 marks) in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-2020 becoming the All India topper and the highest ever scorer in the medical entrance exam.

18-year-old Soyeb wants to be a cardiologist and find the treatment of diseases related to the heart.

Giving exams amidst the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown was challenging, especially since he was living with his mother and sister in Kota in Rajasthan where he had enorolled himself for coaching classes. But Soyeb said becoming a doctor was his dream for which the entire family had put in their share of efforts. His father is a businessman while his mother a housemaker.

“I haven’t gone back to my hometown since 2018. I studied around 10 to 12 hours every day,” he said.

Talking about his preparation, Soyeb said instead of going back to his hometown during the lockdown, like the rest of the students, he used it as an opportunity to spend more time on his studies. He also credits the daily grit that helped him crack the NEET. “Giving full attention in the class and doing daily homework helped me. I also gave equal time to all three subjects which worked in my favour,” he said. Soyeb was a student of the Allen coaching institute.
