‘No Evidence’: Two Suspects Released After Arrest By Delhi Police Over Alleged Terror Links

The Delhi Police Special Cell on Wednesday released two persons who were detained on suspicion of having links with a terror module, reported ANI. However, the police said that no evidence was found against them in the initial interrogation.

“We did not get any information from the suspects, Imtiyaz and Mohammad Jaleel. So, we have released them today,” police added.

They were arrested on Wednesday by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (UP ATS) who claimed to have seized a large number of explosives and weapons from their possession.

However, they have now been released for lack of evidence against them.

On Tuesday, Delhi Police Special Cell arrested six men who they alleged were planning to conduct terrorist activities in major cities of India. Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Neeraj Thakur said in a press conference that the planning for the alleged terror attacks was being done in Pakistan.

The arrests were made after teams of the Special Cell conducted raids in multiple cities on Tuesday. The six men were arrested from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, and were identified as Jaan Mohammad Shaikh (47), Osama alias Sami (22), Moolchand Srivastav alias Saaju (47), Zeeshan Qamar (28), Mohamed Abu Bakr (23), and Mohammed Amir Javed (31).

A day after these arrests, the UP ATS arrested three more men in connection with the case- Mohammad Jameel, Mohammad Imtiaz and Mohammad Tahir. Jameel and Imtiaz have now been released.
