NIA Arrests PFI Chairman, Gen Secretary And Other Officials; Detains Over 100 Members In Raids Across Country

Over 100 leaders of the Popular Front of India (PFI), including its chairman OMA Salam were detained or arrested in early morning raids by multi-agencies led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in around 10 states.

Raids are being conducted throughout the country, including in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the capital.

The NIA said the searches are taking place at the premises of people allegedly involved in terror funding, organising training camps, and radicalising people to join proscribed organisations, reports PTI news agency.

The PFI, in a statement, said the “raids are taking place at the homes of its national, state and local leaders.”

“We strongly protest the fascist regime’s moves to use agencies to silence dissenting voices,” the PFI said.

“NIA’s baseless claims and sensationalism are solely aimed at creating an atmosphere of terror,” the organisation said in a press statement.

PFI members staged a nationwide protest opposing the NIA, and ED conducting the raids.
