Israel’s Army Chief of General Staff, Herzi Halevi, stated on Sunday that the war in Gaza is likely to persist throughout the year. During a visit to the occupied West Bank, he emphasized that 2024 will be a challenging year marked by ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Halevi, addressing Israel’s attacks on Gaza, stressed, “We will be at war in Gaza. We will fight in Gaza all year, that’s for sure.” He indicated that the military’s responsibility for the return of displaced people in northern Israel involves putting pressure on Hezbollah to prevent another war.
The Israeli Army spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, mentioned on Saturday that the focus is on “dispersing Hamas” in central and southern parts of the Gaza Strip, suggesting that the military structure of Hamas has been significantly affected.
Israel initiated air and ground attacks on Gaza following a cross-border incursion by Hamas on October 7, resulting in significant casualties. The conflict has left Gaza’s infrastructure in ruins, displaced a large population, and created shortages of essential resources.
As the military chief anticipates a prolonged conflict, the situation remains complex, with regional implications and global attention on the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
