Condolences Pour In, For Maulana Wali Rahmani, Community Recalls His Contribution Towards Education

Condolences poured in from Muslim leaders and organisations on the death of renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Wali Rahmani, who passed away on Saturday, after a prolonged illness.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) president Syed Sadatullah Husaini described the death of Maulana Syed Wali Rahmani as a great loss for the community and the country. In his condolence message, Hussaini said that the Indian Muslim community has suffered great loss as Maulana Wali Rahmani served the country in a wide range of fields.

The JIH President said, “Maulana will always be remembered for his courage and zeal in trying to solve the problems of the community in difficult and challenging circumstances. As the General Secretary of the AIMPLB, he led numerous campaigns for the protection of the Shari’ah and opposed the media’s misleading propaganda as well as the government interference in ‘personal laws’. On the educational front, a large number of talented students have made it to the prestigious institutions of the country and paved the way for the higher professional education through his various programmes such as the Rahmani Foundation and Rahmani-30”.  The Rahmani Foundation, established in 1996 by Maulana Wali Rahmani, is active in the fields of Public Health, Education, Social Justice, Environment and others. Rahmani 30 founded in 2009, is providing free coaching for IIT JEE, NEET and other professional courses to poor and underprivileged students.”

Besides that, Husaini said, “under the Khanquah Rahmani, Maulana made efforts to educate and reform the society and under the Imarat Shariah, he provided the guidance to the Muslim community in many states. Representing and leading Muslims on the political front in Bihar, efforts for the protection of madrassas and his struggle for the development of the Urdu language are Maulana’s valuable contributions. On all these fronts, he also achieved significant achievements through his tireless struggles. Promoting women in the Muslim Personal Law Board and initiating a movement among them for the protection of the Shari’ah, is also a great achievement of the late Maulana.”

Popular Front of India’s chairman, O M A Salam described him as a “relentless voice for justice and human rights who spoke out against repressive laws”.

“One of the most prominent leaders of the Indian Muslim community, Maulana Wali Rahmani dedicated his life in the efforts for uplifting the community as a scholar, as an educationalist, and as a politician. Maulana was also a well-wisher of the Popular Front of India and a vocal critique of the repressive moves against the organisation. He was also a relentless voice for justice and human rights who spoke out against repressive laws, and as the chairman of the People’s Movement Against UAPA, he played a leading role in the historic nationwide campaigns against the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. His absence will be an irreparable loss to the community and the country at large,” he said in a statement.

Hyderabad MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi said that the Maulana’s passing away is an immense loss for all. “I was blessed to have worked closely with him since 2008. Cannot omit his incredible contribution to the cause of uplifting the community in both deen & duniya. An initiative like Rahmani 30 was inspirational & an example for community education initiatives everywhere,” he said in a tweet.

The All India Da’wah Centres Association (AIDCA) in a statement said that the that the Maulana’s demise is a huge loss for the community, especially in the fields of education, employment and personal laws. “We have lost a leader who was fighting for the personal laws of the Muslims”, its statement read.
