‘Bulli Bai’: 21-Yr-Old Man Detained From Bengaluru For Listing Muslim Women For ‘Auction’ On Website

A 21-year-old man from Bengaluru was arrested by the Mumbai Police Cyber Cell on Monday in connection with the ‘Bulli Bai’ website that listed Muslim women for ‘auction’, ANI reported.

The report says the suspect to be a second-year student of civil engineering in Bengaluru, but his identity has not been revealed.

Maharashtra minister of state for home (urban) Satej Patil said not too many details can be divulged at the moment as it may hamper the ongoing investigation. “I would like to assure all the victims that we are proactively chasing the culprits and they will face the law very soon,” he added.

On January 1, when the world welcomed the beginning of a new year, many Muslim women in India woke up to the horror of seeing their names and photos listed for ‘auction’ on a website called ‘Bulli Bai’.

The website hosted on GitHub displayed more than 100 Muslim women ‘for sale as maids’. The women listed, include journalists, writers and activists, vocal on social media and elsewhere against the atrocities on Muslims in the country.

The website was later blocked by the hosting platform GitHub following outrage and complaints.

The police have registered a case against unknown culprits under relevant sections of IPC and the IT Act.
