Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Ends JD(U)’s Alliance With BJP Again

Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar has ended his alliance with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state, after days of intense political crisis. CM Kumar is set to meet Governor Phagu Chauhan this evening with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Tejashwi Yadav, according to sources.

The tension between the two parties hit the threshold over Nitish Kumar’s concerns that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is working relentlessly to split the Janata Dal (United). He is convinced that Shah wants to repeat the Maharashtra model in Bihar.

The RJD led by Tejashwi Yadav which is Bihar’s single-largest party is expected to formally announce its support for Nitish Kumar. This will revive an earlier alliance with JD(U) that lasted for less than three years.

The Congress has also started a series of meetings in Bihar to decide its stand on a possible support to the RJD chief.

Currently, in the Bihar Assembly, BJP has 77 seats, while JD(U) holds 45, the Congress 19, the Left led by CPIML(L) holds 16 and the RJD 79.
