Bengaluru School Lodges Complaint Against ‘False Accusation’ By Student’s Kin That Teacher Asked Students To ‘Pray To Allah’

A private school in Bengaluru has filed a police complaint against the parents of a class 2 student and dismissed their allegations of forceful promotion of a particular religion by the Maths teacher. A viral video claimed that a teacher in the school had asked students to pray to Allah during a mathematics class.

“After a thorough investigation, we have found that no such instance occurred in the maths class as the teacher focused only on her subject and never said anything about any religion. The children in the classroom have confirmed that the teacher has been accused wrongly and not said anything outside the purview of her subject. Hence we have concluded that the allegation made in the video is inaccurate and untrue,” read a statement from the school.

The school said it checked the CCTV footage of the class, spoke to the parents as well as children who attended the said class, and asked them if any such forceful promotion of religious act was made.

In the complaint, Orchids The International School, BTM Layout, has alleged the parents intentionally uploaded a video on social media ‘falsely’ accusing the teacher of forcefully promoting the practice of religion in the maths class.

The school has requested Mico Layout police to summon and counsel the parents. Police have registered a non-cognisable report over the incident.

A video of the girl alleging that her maths teacher had asked her to pray to Allah during the class had surfaced on social media on Wednesday. “She had asked us to form our hands in the shape of a bowl and put them over our eyes, if we didn’t, she’d yell at us,” the child alleged in the video.

“The alleged action of eye palming exercise, spoken about in the video, is an activity called two minutes eye exercise (TMEE) conducted during online class sessions,” the school has said.

However, posting another video with his daughter, the father of the student has refuted the eye exercise claims made by the school.
