Athletes Shine In National Sports Awards: From Boxer Mohammed Hussamuddin To Cricketer Mohammed Shami

In a regal ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, President Droupadi Murmu honored India’s top-performing athletes with national sports awards on January 9. The ceremony celebrated outstanding achievements in sports and recognized individuals who have excelled in their respective fields.

Boxer Mohammed Hussamuddin’s Triumph: Telangana’s Mohammed Hussamuddin, a native of Nizamabad, emerged as a source of inspiration as he clinched the prestigious Arjuna Award. Known for his discipline, focus, and unwavering resilience, Hussamuddin’s journey began with unconventional training sessions in a graveyard under his father’s guidance. Overcoming initial fears, he emphasized the importance of technique over raw strength in boxing. With notable victories, including two bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games (2022 and 2018) and success at the Asian Championships (2022), Hussamuddin’s achievements underscore the transformative power of passion and mentorship.

Shuttlers Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy’s Success: Shuttlers Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy were honored with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award for their breakthrough performance in 2023. The duo secured India’s first-ever gold in badminton at the Asian Games, along with triumphs in the Asian Championships and Indonesia Open Super 1000. Their remarkable achievements contributed to India’s prominence in international badminton.

Cricketer Mohammed Shami’s Recognition: Cricketer Mohammed Shami received the Arjuna Award in recognition of his exemplary performance in cricket. His notable contributions to the sport earned him this prestigious accolade, highlighting his dedication and skill on the cricket field.
Shami took to social media, stating, “Today I am feeling very proud that I have been honored with the prestigious Arjuna Award by the President. I want to thank all those people who have helped me a lot to reach here and have always supported me in my ups and downs.”
