Anti-Muslim Tweets ‘Liked’ From Chaayos’ Handle, Puts Company In A Spot

A series of anti-Muslim tweets ‘liked’ from the Twitter handle of popular tea cafe Chaayos, has put the company in a spot, with social media users asking if it’s the official policy of the company.

A Twitter user named Anushka Jain shared a screenshot of Chaayos’ Twitter profile. The likes section of the handle had many anti-Muslim tweets, which were ‘liked’ by Chaayos.

Jain shared the screenshot and asked, “So is this official @Chaayos policy or some social media intern gone crazy?”

The tweets offended many users who slammed Chaayos for its behaviour.

Doctor Roshan R wrote, “Absolutely disgraceful @Chaayos. Purely bigoted, hate filled people running the show. This ideology will help politicians who aim to breed hate selectively but it will destroy food outlets that aim to serve all. Remember that.”

Another user wrote, “If an employee of theirs was behind this, I can only imagine how toxic a workplace Chaayos must be for minorities.”

After much outcry, Chaayos issued an apology stating that the tweets were ‘inadvertently’ liked from their account.

“There was an offensive tweet that was inadvertently liked from our account. Chaayos detests and denies any view mentioned in the said tweet. We apologise to everyone and to those who were impacted by it,” the company tweeted.

Stating that they “always respected people of all faiths equally,” the company further said that they are “investigating what led to this and shall take corrective action asap.”
