Indifference, apathy, and communal bigotry reign in Karnataka’s BJP government, with its leaders making false accusations and insensitive comments every other day. Senior BJP leader Karnataka minister KS Eshwarappa on Monday said the government does “not own a printing machine” to mint currency notes and hand out compensation to people hit hard by the lockdown.
The Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Minister, who often has his foot in the mouth said, “Do we print notes (to extend doles)?” in reply to the opposition’s demand that the government must consider giving Rs 10,000 compensation to each working-class family, TOI reported.
This is the second instance, the controversial minister has stoked controversy by his statements. Last week, he alleged that a Muslim organization is behind the bed-booking racket in Bengaluru and said the government would take action against it. He is yet to reveal the organization’s name.
Eshwarappa’s insensitive comments come days after South Bengaluru MP Tejasvi Surya made false accusations against 17 Muslim employees of the BBMP and had them removed from their jobs. Days later, the employees were given clean chit by the police and reinstated to work. Surya stood exposed and was slammed for communalizing the COVID crisis. There is no action initiated by the authorities against him yet.
