The Uttar Pradesh Police have booked more than 100 Muslims for demonstrating against anti-Islamic Hindu priest Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati for making derogatory and insulting remarks against the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Inquilab newspaper reported.
Police alleged that protestors violated the social distancing norms and breached the code of conduct of section 144 imposed in the area on the account of Panchayat elections. A case has been registered under sections 188 and 269, Muslim Mirror reported.
Sunni Ulama Council General Secretary Hafiz Noor Ahmad Azhari condemned the police action. “Police could not take cognizance of the large gatherings carried out in front of Block Development office due to elections, but they could only see the gatherings of Muslims who had come out of their houses to peacefully demand action against a terrorist like Narsinghanand,” he said
He also asserted they will revert to the police’s action through legal and democratic means.
Narsinghanand Saraswati is a head priest of the Dasna Devi Temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, where a minor Muslim boy was mercilessly beaten up for drinking water in the temple premises.
In a press conference held at the Press Club of India in New Delhi, he insulted the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Islam.
In another video he can be seen saying things like, “Muslims should have left for Pakistan at the time of partition”, “Muslims deserve genocide” and “Holy Quran and Muslim’s religious texts should be burnt down” along with one of his footman Pinki Chaudhary who claimed the responsibility of the violence in Jawaharlal Nehru University that took place during protests against controversial citizenship amendment act last year.
