Three among the group of six Muslim students who launched the resistance against the ongoing Hijab ban in Karnataka colleges were on Monday denied entry into college in Udupi district as a result of which they missed their final Physics practical examination.
The three of them are in their second year of Pre-University. They have two more practical examinations scheduled on March 2 and March 5.
A H Almas, one of the girls in the defiant group of six took to Twitter saying that they went to college with “great hopes to attend the practical exam” on Monday with their completed record booked but were allegedly threatened by the principal to leave in five minutes he would file a police complaint. Almaas said that the behaviour of the principal was “disheartening”.
The hijab row which began from Udupi in late December and spread across the state after an interim order by the Karnataka high court has sparked public outrage but the right-wing government of Basavraj Bommai in the state did not budge. The high court last week after hearing the matter for 11 days reserved the verdict.
