M A Yusuff Ali, chairman of the multi billion dollar retail chain Lulu Group, contributed Rs 25 crores to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) to combat the novel coronavirus.
“I have humbly contributed INR 25 Crores to the PM Cares Fund to support all relief works in India’s fight against the COVID-19,” Yusuffali said in a tweet.

Responding to the generous gesture, the Consul-General of India in Dubai tweeted: “Thank you Yusuf saab in particular on behalf of every Indian in Dubai and Northern Emirates. You have always contributed handsomely to community activities. Vipul, Consul General”

64-year-old Yusuff Ali was ranked the richest expat in the UAE by the Forbes magazine last year and is the first Indian to receive permanent residency in Saudi Arabia. LuLu Group International runs a chain of businesses with an annual turnover of over 8.1 billion dollars. Ali also has a sizeable stake in the Cochin International Airport Ltd. which runs and operates the Kochi airport.
Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had created PM CARES Fund and appealed to all the countrymen to show their support for the cause.
The prime minister is the chairman of the trust and its members include the defence minister, the home minister and the finance minister.
