An anonymous Twitter handle that made a tweet leading to the arrest of Mohammed Zubair, a journalist and co-founder of Alt News, does not exist on the social media platform anymore.
The handle @balajikijaiin, with the name Hanuman Bhakt had objected to a tweet posted by Zubair in 2018, which showed an image of a hotel signboard repainted from “Honeymoon Hotel” to “Hanuman Hotel”.
He responded to the post on June 19, urging the Delhi Police to take against him saying that it was an insult to Hanuman.
Surprisingly, this was the only tweet posted by the anonymous account, which had only three followers until Monday evening when Zubair was arrested by a cyber unit of the Delhi Police on charges of hurting religious sentiments. He has been sent to police custody for four days.
It soon got 1,200 followers. However, a message on Wednesday morning said, “This account doesn’t exist.”
