A sub-inspector named A Anil from the Jagtial rural police station in Telangana has been accused of attacking a Muslim woman and abusing her faith on Tuesday, May 10. Jagtial district Superintendent of Police (SP), Aggadi Bhaskar, has issued transfer orders on disciplinary grounds and attached him to the district police headquarters.
The victim, Shaik Farha (22), alleged that the SI assaulted her after an argument broke out between her and his wife over a seat while traveling in a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus in Jagtial.
Farha stated that the SI’s wife boarded the bus and demanded space from her. On declining her request, she started abusing Farha and her mother, using vulgar language.
The SI was at the destination to receive his wife, and on being briefed of what had happened earlier, he and his colleague allegedly pulled Farha and her mother out of the bus, using foul language against them and their faith.
Farha tried to record the incident, but the constable snatched her phone.
Later, Farha lodged a complaint at the Jagtial Town police station, and the SI, his wife, and the constable were booked under Indian Penal Code’s sections 290, 323, and 341 read with 34.
Asaduddin Owaisi, the Hyderabad MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president, raised the issue with Jagtial SP Aggadi Bhaskar.
The SP assured him that necessary action would be taken against the SI and mentioned that the SI had been transferred and attached to the AR HQs.
The Telangana State Minorities Commission has reportedly asked the SP to submit a report on the incident.
