Student Leader Rauf Shareef Tests Positive For COVID-19 In Mathura Jail

Campus Front of India (CFI) national general secretary Rauf Shareef, who was arrested in the Hathras case, has tested positive for COVID-19. He has been isolated in Mathura jail.

Serious concerns about the lack of basic healthcare services in jail have been raised by his brother Salman Shareef.

Shareef said, “There is no proper food and treatment in jail. His health condition is not well now,” he was quoted by Maktoob Media.

He is lodged in Mathura Jail in Uttar Pradesh along with five other Muslims who were framed and slapped with the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in cases related to the Hathras gang rape case.

Earlier, Shareef was arrested by ED under sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering in December 2020 but got bail in that case after two months.

Meanwhile, The Supreme Court on Wednesday has directed the Uttar Pradesh Government to shift Journalist Siddique Kappan to a hospital in Delhi for better treatment after he tested positive for Covid-19.

The decision was taken based on the petition was filed by Adv. Will Mathews. His family alleged that he is being treated like an animal and tied to a cot, not even allowed to access the toilet.
