Kundgol Assembly constituency in Dharwad district is witnessing a race for the Congress ticket with many number of candidates seeking party ticket to contest from a constituency where the sitting MLA belongs to their own party, Deccan Herald reported.
The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has received 1,350 applications from the leaders who are keen to contest the upcoming Assembly elections.
It has come to light that as many as 14 aspirants have submitted applications seeking the Congress ticket from Kundgol constituency, which is the highest among all the seven constituencies in the district.
Kusumavati Shivalli is the sitting Congress MLA of Kundgol after she won the bye-elections in 2019 following the death of her husband and then minister C S Shivalli. Even then, the Congress and the JD(S) rebel candidates had filed nominations. However, they withdrew the papers after the then Congress-JD(S) alliance leaders asked them to do so.
