Zafaryab Jilani, a prominent senior advocate and secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, passed away on Wednesday at a hospital in Lucknow. He was 74 years old. According to his son Najam Zafaryab, Jilani had been battling a long-term illness and breathed his last at around 11:50 am. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
Jilani, renowned for his involvement in the Babri Masjid case, had previously served as the Additional Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh. His funeral rites will be conducted at the Aishbagh cemetery in Lucknow later in the evening, as confirmed by his son Najam.
Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali expressed his thoughts on Jilani’s demise, stating, “Zafaryab Jilani dedicatedly fought the Babri Masjid case across various courts and served as the convenor of the Babri Masjid Action Committee. He also held the position of secretary in several educational institutions. May Allah grant him forgiveness and provide strength to those he has left behind.”
