Saudi Arabia has officially established a dress code for women participating in the Umrah pilgrimage. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has issued guidelines regarding appropriate attire for female pilgrims visiting the sacred sites.
According to the Ministry’s statement on social media, women are permitted to choose their clothing for the pilgrimage, provided they adhere to specific criteria, which include:
- Wide and Loose-Fitting Attire: The clothing should be loose-fitting and ample in size to ensure modesty and comfort during the pilgrimage.
- Avoidance of Decorative Elements: The attire should not incorporate any decorative or ornate elements, ensuring simplicity and adherence to religious traditions.
- Full Body Coverage:Women’s clothing must cover the entire body, in accordance with Islamic modesty requirements.
Umrah refers to the voluntary pilgrimage to Makkah undertaken by Muslims, and it holds significant religious importance. This new dress code aims to provide clarity and guidance for female pilgrims, ensuring that they observe the appropriate dress etiquette while participating in this sacred journey.
Saudi authorities anticipate that approximately 10 million international visitors will undertake the Umrah pilgrimage to the Grand Mosque in Makkah during this season, highlighting the global significance of this religious practice.
