Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, who served thrice as the Uttar Pradesh chief minister and once as the Union defence minister, passed away on Monday, at the age of 82.
Mulayam, who was a member of Lok Sabha, representing Azamgargh constituency of Uttar Pradesh died after being unwell for some time. He was being treated at Medanta Hospital.
Popularly called Netaji by his supporters, he is now survived by two sons – Akhilesh Yadav and Prateek Yadav.
In 1989, he took oath as UP’s 15th CM and as a leader of Janata Dal with his term lasting for two years. Later he parted ways with Janata Dal and founded the Samajwadi Party, becoming the most powerful OBC leader in the country.
