Bengaluru police lathi-charged students on Tuesday who were protesting against the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Students from Campus Front of India (CFI) were lathi-charged near Bengaluru’s Mysore Bank Circle, from where they had planned to gherao Vidhana Soudha during the ongoing assembly session.

The Police high-handedness against student protestors has drawn criticism, with many slamming the ruling BJP government.

Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar slammed the government and extended his support to the protesting students.

Video visuals show female students being dragged by the police, and some students even suffering injuries.

The police took all the protesters to custody.

The National Education Policy has drawn widespread criticism for furthering inequalities, promoting privatisation, undermining the Right to Education Act and most importantly, replacing constitutional values with banal ideas such as seva, ahimsa, swacchta and sacrifice.
