Mughal Emperor Humayun Died
This day (27 January 1556) marks the death of Mughal emperor Humayun. A warrior and connoisseur of poetry, whose reign saw inclusiveness for all sects of Islam, he ascended at 22 and regained the losses of his inexperience to expand the Mughal Empire to almost one million square kilometres.
Syed Mir Nisar Ali (Titu Mir) Was Born
On this day, 27 January 1782, Syed Mir Nisar Ali (Titu Mir), a Bengali revolutionary was born. He urged Muslims towards nationalism, agrarian reforms and political awareness. He is famed for having built a large bamboo fort where he gave military training to nearly 5000 men who resisted and eventually defeated a British contingent.
