The Zila Panchayat of Aligarh has passed a resolution seeking to rename Aligarh as Harigarh. The resolution was passed Monday by the panchayat without any opposition with 50 out of 72 members in attendance.
Earlier, a proposal was also passed to name the upcoming Aligarh Airport after BJP leader Kalyan Singh. Singh was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh when the Babri Masjid was demolished by Hindu extremists.
The UP Government headed by Yogi Adityanath has been on a name changing spree of roads, monuments and places for a long time now. The name of Allahabad has already been changed to Prayagraj and Mughalsarai to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar.
Along with this, Zila Panchayat of Manipuri has also passed a resolution to rename it as Mayan Nagar and Firozabad district to Chandra Nagar. It has also sent a proposal to change the name of Jhansi Railway Station to Rani Laxmi Bai Railway Station.
