In a blatant display of anti-Muslim bigotry, a customer in Hyderabad ordering food from Swiggy demanded that the restaurant not send a Muslim man for delivery.
Shaik Salauddin, President of Telangana Four Wheels Drivers Association shared the screenshot of an online food delivery order which shows an order placed with the food delivery platform Swiggy in Hyderabad.
“Don’t want a Muslim delivery person” the instruction message along with the order read.
Salauddin wrote on Twitter, “Dear @Swiggy please take a stand against such a bigoted request. We (Delivery workers) are here to deliver food to one and all, be it Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh.”
Swiggy, however, has not publicly responded to the post yet. However, several social media users called out the outrageous demand and suggested that such customers should be banned from the platform.
Unfortunately this is not the first time, that such incident and discrimination has taken place against delivery executives over their religion.
In October 2019, Ajay Kumar, another Swiggy customer from Hyderabad refused to receive his meals order because the delivery executive was a Muslim. In the delivery instructions, Kumar claimed that he had clearly written, “Very less spicy. And, please select Hindu delivery person. All ratings will be based on this.”
