News Of Closure Of Urdu Hall In Bengaluru False

Amid rumours spread on social media about the closure of Urdu Hall at Bengaluru’s Hazrat Hameed Shah Complex, the committee’s chairman G A Bawa has clarified that the hall has not been closed but has only been shifted to a different floor. He said the news about the closure of Urdu Hall is false and the old premises used as Urdu Hall is being renovated to build a blood bank.

News on social media by some YouTube news channels had alleged that the city’s Urdu Hall, which was used to host Urdu programs was being shut down and converted into a blood bank. The news had upset the community.

However, in a press conference, the Wakf Board-run Hazrat Hameed Shah Complex committee rubbished the reports.

“It was not being used well, programs were not conducted for many days. In the last six years, only 18 programs were conducted in the hall. Urdu Hall has been shifted to a better and bigger location,” they said.

The committee said the decision to establish a blood bank at Urdu Hall was taken together with the Minority Department secretary and the Waqf Board, adding that “there are no blood banks owned by Muslims in the city.”

“The Urdu Hall was chosen to be the ideal place to establish the blood bank due to technical aspects like space for equipment, square feet etc,” they said.
