Never Ending Savarkar Flex Row In Karnataka: Savarkar’s Poster Torn In Tumkur Day After Clashes

Several banners with the photo of Hindutva ideologue Savarkar were torn by some people in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district on Tuesday, a day after another group allegedly removed a poster of Savarkar and put up Tipu Sultan’s photo in Shivamogga, leading to violent clashes in the city.

The banner of Savarkar that was torn down was installed in front of Empress College in Tumakuru, which was put up as part of Independence Day celebrations in the college.

On Tuesday, as many as four people were arrested for allegedly stabbing a man in Shivamogga following a clash that broke out amid communal tension over a banner featuring the Savarkar’s image.

Communal clashes broke out in the area after a group allegedly removed a poster of Savarkar and installed a photo of Tipu Sultan, according to reports.

Following the clashes, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code have been clamped down in Shivamogga city over Savarkar and Tipu Sultan flex row. Authorities have also deployed additional forces in the area.
