Karnataka Assembly Election 2023

Mohammed Haris Nalapad Seeks Congress Ticket From Rizwan Arshad’s Shivajinagar Constituency

Karnataka Youth Congress President Mohammad Haris Nalapad has applied for party ticket to contest from Shivajinagar constituency for the upcoming assembly elections.

Ahead of the Assembly polls in the state, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has received more than 400 applications and many sitting MLAs are yet to submit their applications. KPCC had invited applications from candidates seeking the party ticket and Tuesday was the last to apply.

About 30 sitting MLAs have already submitted their applications seeking tickets to run for another term. However, several MLAs are yet to submit the applications and have demanded the KPCC president DK Shivakumar to extend the deadline. The last date is likely to be extended by the party, as per reports.

On Tuesday, Mohammad Haris Nalapad had applied for a ticket to contest the 2023 assembly elections and sought a ticket from Shivajinagar constituency in Bengaluru.

The sitting MLA of the constituency where Nalapad is seeking a ticket is Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad.

N A Haris, father of Mohammed Haris Nalapad is the MLA of Shantinagar Constituency. Nalapad, however, has applied for Congress ticket from Shivajinagar constituency.

Congress fielded Rizwan Arshad in the 2019 by-election, after the previous Congress MLA, R Roshan Baig defected from the party during the Congress-JDS coalition government.

Arshad won the election and the seat remains in the hands of the party itself. Interestingly, the father and son duo had campaigned for Arshad during the elections.

One media report from 2019, claimed that NA Haris has been planning to launch his son from Shivajinagar. The report alleged that Haris and his son campaigning in Shivajinagar during Arshad’s elections, was a carefully crafted path to launch the younger Nalapad.

“Every politician aspires to grow, and I also am an aspirant. Now Rizwan sir is here and I don’t think he will vacate the seat. Let’s see how things change. Whether it is him or us, it is the same, we need Congress to win,” Nalapad had told a news outlet after the 2019 by-elections.
