The Press Club of India Thursday held a seminar to commemorate the 164th death anniversary of Maulvi Muhammad Baqar, the first journalist who was executed by the British following the rebellion of 1857.
At the seminar, a Hindi version of journalist Masoom Muradabadi’s book titled “1857 Ki Kranti Aur Urdu Patrkarita” (The Revolution of 1957 and Urdu Journalism) was released. It highlights the story of Baqar’s life as a journalist and a freedom fighter.
Swati Mathur, from The Times of India, and Shams Tabrez Qasmi, editor of Millat Times were felicitated with an award named after Baqar.
