A massive fire broke out in the wee hours of Thursday, April 2, at Shivajinagar’s Bamboo Bazaar area in Bengaluru amid the coronavirus pandemic, and the nationwide lockdown.
At least 13 shops were gutted in the fire in the half a century-year-old timber market area in Bengaluru. No casualties have been reported so far.
As many as 17 fire tenders were rushed to douse the fire, which broke out 3.25 am according to Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao, who inspected the spot.
One of the most popular markets in the city, Bamboo Bazaar is known for readymade furniture, antiques, doors and cabinet shops devoted to bamboo.
“A godown which had stocked air-conditioners, washing machines and refrigerators have also been gutted,” the Commissioner said.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
