In a remarkable accomplishment, a 26-year-old man from the Bandipora district of North Kashmir wrote the Holy Quran by hand on a 500-meter-long paper scroll, in just three months.
The project was started last year by Mustafa-Ibn-Jameel, a local of the Tulail neighbourhood of the frontier Gurez in the north Kashmir province.
Jamil said he arranged for the special art paper for calligraphy from a factory in Delhi and then got a special calligraphy ink for it.
He claimed that after beginning the calligraphy portion, which he completed using the Naskh typeface, the job was finished in June of this year after a three-month period.
According to Jameel, the project was finished in Delhi for a little over Rs 2.5 lakh.
Jameel stated, “It was my sincere goal to write a Quran copy,” adding that at first, he studied calligraphy to sharpen his penmanship. Then, as I was writing a few chapters of the Quran, I had the thought that I ought to use my God-given talent to create something special because I was feeling so content.
He said that he wants to develop his artistic career and that he is currently working on a number of projects.
Jameel has received recognition for his work from the Chennai-based NGO Lincoln Book of Records, which promotes talents from people across the globe.
He expressed the hope that his accomplishment will encourage young people in Kashmir to learn calligraphy, an art form that has been declining in the region over the years.
