The Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday killed three militants who were involved in the attack at a senior BJP leader’s residence in Srinagar. Two civilians were also injured during the encounter. They have been identified as Ishrat Jan (25), who has a bullet injury and Ghulam Nabi Dar (42), who has multiple pellet injuries.
“Three militants involved in the attack on BJP leader’s residence in J-K’s Nowgam killed in Pulwama encounter,” IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
He identified the slain militants as Suhail Nisar Lone, Yasir Wani, both residents of Khrew area of Pulwama and Junaid Ahmed from Prichoo, Pulwama. “The first two had joined militancy in February this year and the third one in March this year,” he said.
On Thursday, militants attacked the residence of BJP leader Mohammad Anwar Khan at Aaribagh Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar; Khan was not in the house at the time of the incident. A police constable- Rameez Raja was gunned down in the attack, and the militants had escaped with his rifle.
The attack was the second in Srinagar and third in the Valley in the last week. On March 25, militants fired on a CRPF vehicle at Lawaypora on the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway killing three CRPF personnel and wounding one. It was followed by another militant strike in Sopore when two militants stormed the office of the Sopore Municipal Council, killing two councilors and a policeman.
