The Karnataka government has directed the education department to submit a report on the “activities” of madrasas in the state, IANS reported.

As per the new order, the education department has to submit a report on 960 madrasas in the state. A committee, headed by the Commissioner of the education department, has been formed to give a comprehensive report on the activities of the madrasas.

IANS quoted BJP sources that the report by the education department would be used to decide whether to ban madrasas or to bring them under the purview of the education department. The BJP government in the state is thinking about taking action on madrasas similar to the Uttar Pradesh government.
