In a bid to foster a holistic educational experience, Karnataka’s Minister for Housing and Minority Welfare, Zameer Ahmed Khan, has unveiled plans to introduce science, mathematics, and Kannada and English languages into the curriculum of madrasas across the state.
Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan made this groundbreaking announcement during a progress review meeting held at the Directorate of Minority Welfare. His directive emphasizes the importance of promoting regional languages and providing a well-rounded education within madrasas.
“Kannada should be taught as a mandatory subject in madrasas. Furthermore, efforts must be taken to introduce other languages alongside English,” stated Minister Khan during the meeting. He urged officials in attendance to swiftly implement this initiative to enrich the educational experience of madrasa students.
Pilot Program for Practical Learning
With 1,265 registered madrasas under the purview of the Waqf Board in Karnataka, Minister Khan’s proposal includes a pilot program that aims to benefit around five thousand students from 100 selected madrasas. Starting from the upcoming academic year, these students will have the opportunity to engage in practical learning of Kannada, English, science, and mathematics. The Minister also called for the preparation of a comprehensive proposal to extend this curriculum to all madrasas in the state in the following academic year.
Enhancing Education with a Special Handbook
In a move to further enhance the quality of education, Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan unveiled a specially crafted handbook during the same event. This handbook covers a range of subjects, including science and mathematics, and is designed to support students in classes 9, 10, and 12. Beneficiaries of this initiative include students enrolled in the Morarji Desai Residential School and College, as well as the Maulana Azad Model Schools, all of which operate under the Directorate of Minority Welfare.
The introduction of science, mathematics, and regional languages into the madrasa curriculum marks a significant step towards providing a more well-rounded education to students in these institutions.
