The Bagalkot police have arrested a 31-year-old man who was on the wanted list by the Shivamogga police over the issue of threatening the BJP MLC D S Arun with a fake Facebook profile projecting himself as a Muslim.
This ‘Fake Muslim’, who used the profile on Facebook as ‘Mustak Ali’, has been identified as Siddaroodh Shreekanth, a resident of Gokal taluk of Belagavi district.
He had created a fake profile to threaten the MLC, which comes after his anti-Muslim media statement over the murder of a Bajrang Dal Activist Harsha in Shivamogga.
Bagalkot SP Lokesh Jagalasar told that a case was registered at the CEN police station in Bagalkot recently related to inflammatory comments made on social media by one Mustak Ali. Upon investigation, it was found that the accused was in fact Siddaroodh Shreekanth who had created a fake profile. He was using this profile for malicious purposes, such as posting inflammatory content, The New Indian Express reported.
“The accused has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody,” TNIE quoted the SP as saying.
However, after this issue, the SP had also urged the public not to believe everything that came on social media and advised the public to verify before they post or share something like this on social media.
Using the fake id, Shreekanth had insulted the government with derogatory remarks. The MLC’s PA had asked the police to provide protection to the MLC.
