Karnataka: Dalit Boy Tied To A Pole, Thrashed Over Suspicion Of Theft

Ten people have been booked for tying a 14-year-old Dalit boy to a pole and thrashing him in Karnataka’s Chintamani district.

The accused, belonging to the upper caste, had allegedly assaulted the boy identified as Yashwanth suspecting him of theft, IANS reported.

A resident of Kempadenahalli, Yashwanth was playing with other boys and girls of his age. According to reports, the Dalit boy allegedly stole gold earrings from an upper caste girl.

After suspecting the boy, the upper caste mob dragged the victim and tied him to an electrical pole and thrashed him. His mother was also beaten up while she tried to rescue her son.

Meanwhile, the minor boy and his mother have been admitted to a government hospital.

Chintamani Rural Police have recorded the statements of the victim boy and his mother and registered a case against 10 persons belonging to the upper caste.
