Karnataka College Suspends Four Male Students For Dancing In Burqas At College Event

Four students of an engineering college in Karnataka have been suspended for wearing burqas and dancing at a programme.

A video has surfaced on social media, where the four students are seen dancing on stage to a famous Bollywood dance song while the audience cheers and applauds them.

The student association of St. Joseph Engineering College in Mangaluru had organised the programme on Wednesday.

After the video went viral on social media, the Principal of the college suspended the students and initiated an enquiry.

In a statement, the college said, “The dance was by Muslim students who barged on stage during the informal part of the students’ association inaugural.”

“It was not part of the approved program and the students involved have been suspended pending enquiry. The college does not support or condone any activities that could harm the harmony between communities and everyone,” it said.
